Dear fellow investors, guys and gals, friends and family.

One of the best parts of being financially free is that you have the freedom to spend your time on the things you value the most.

Last month I was presented an opportunity that I couldn’t let pass. A friend of mine asked if I wanted to have a leading role and be partner in his start-up, a vegan restaurant concept, which we plan to spread all over the world.

I have always wanted to be part of an energetic start-up team with big visions and no limits for upside potential so it was an easy YES for me.

If you’re in Denmark, come visit us at Grønnegade 7, 8700 Horsens!

Accepting this challenge also means we needed to move back to Denmark, because this is where the company is based. We loved Portugal and plan to move back someday.

Even though I’ll be busy with the new job, I still plan to update the blog every month.

Here’s the numbers for July 2020:

Portfolio performance: Historical view

Income from Crowdlending & Real Estate combined was 2 257.71€
(-931.18€ less than last month).

That means I’m 75.26% Financially Free (-31.04 percentage points down from last month).

Stocks / trading

I added 2 new stocks to my portfolio in July.

  • The Hershey Company (HSY)
  • Nikola Corp (NKLA)

Hershey and Nikola price levels hit previous lows which makes them interesting for a swing trade. Nikola is extremely speculative where Hershey is a much more conservative trade.

I bought WT Physical Silver (PHAG) on July 21st @ 17.20€ and sold it today @ 21.95€.

I also bought WisdomTree Platinum 2x Daily Leveraged (LPLA:MIL:EUR) today @ 2.65€. Similar to Silver it broke out of it’s previous range yesterday.

This is my current equity portfolio:

I buy my stocks and trade on DeGiro, which I consider the best and cheapest no-bullshit broker in Europe. If you use this link to sign up we will both receive a 20€ in transaction reimbursement (fee deduction). I don’t receive any commission besides the fee deduction.

Bondora

I stopped reinvesting in Bondora* a long time ago and I’ve started the slow withdrawal process.

152.69€ was recovered in July but I still have 24 769€ in defaulted loans.

I invested in loans through Bondora’s “Portfolio Manager”. I advise you not to make the same mistake.

If you want to use Bondora’s Go&Grow as a savings account and earn 6.75% interest rate, use this link* to get 5€ free when you sign up.

Bulkestate

I’m have invested in 2 projects on Bulkestate* and the next payout is scheduled for 21.12.2020.

Bulkestate investors have not experienced issues during the pandemic, which to me, proves it’s a good and reliable real estate crowdfunding platform.

All new investors will receive a 5 EUR cash-back bonus upon their first investment.

Crowdestate

I’m still withdrawing from Crowdestate*. While I don’t think there’s any doubt that the platform is legit, I have not been convinced about their ability to pick the right borrowers. In my opinion, too many projects have experienced payback issues.

Crowdestor

There’s a few delayed projects at Crowdestor* but I’m happy with the level of communication in the official Crowdestor Facebook group and email updates.

Crowdestor’s site was down for a couple of days due to hostile DDoS attacks. They have moved their site to Amazon Web services and is now in a safer environment. I’m pleased to see how they handled the situation in a quick and professional way.

FastInvest

I’m currently not happy with FastInvest*.  Withdrawals have been pending for months and we’ve seen no signs of improvement.

Grupeer

While it’s clear that Grupeer is facing a lot of problems, they continue to communicate to investors from their blog. Apparently, they’re planning to resume repayments from some Loan Originators within the next couple of months. I’ll have to see it before I believe it though.

According to Grupeer’s own “Portfolio performance audit”, 44% (20.84M EUR) of their portfolio is facing financial difficulties. The latest update was posted on 20.07.2020.

Mintos

While many loan originators are struggling on Mintos*, I get the impression that they’re doing a good job handling the situation and getting money back to investors. Several of the defaulted loan originators made substantial repayments to investors in July.

Mintos does a good job giving updates on each and every Loan Originator on their blog.

As you can see from the graph, my Mintos portfolio has not suffered much from the pandemic.

PeerBerry

I use PeerBerry* as my children’s savings account. Everything is running smooth here.

Reinvest24

ReInvest24* is starting to gain some well deserved traction.

More projects are being published and funding seems to happen quicker than usual. This is a good sign and it’s exactly what ReInvest24 needs in order to gain popularity.

If you want to try ReInvest24 you will get 10€ instantly credited to your account if you sign up with my ReInvest24 referral link*.

ReInvest24 is giving 2% Cashback until 10.08.2020 23:59 if you invest (gross total) at least 500€.

Robocash

Robocash* borrowers are clearly hit by Covid-19. I’m happy that Robocash has a good economy and never failed to honor their 60 day buyback guarantee.

Swaper

Record earnings month on Swaper*.

The 60 day buyback kicked in for many loans which explains the higher than usual repayment.

Viventor

Several loan originators on Viventor* are struggling but at least they are good at communicating what’s going on.

Wisefund

Wisefund implemented a 3 month grace period in March. According to the “Expected Account Transactions” list in my Dashboard, projects should start paying again from 30.07.2020.

However, no repayments were received in July and no information was given other than this notice in the project descriptions:

Investors in the Telegram group are now preparing for legal action.

Real Estate

I received rent from 4 tenants in July. One apartment is currently vacant while it’s being renovated.

Savings rate / expenses overview

My total expenses for the month were 2 348€. It’s a tad more than usual due to a visit to the dentist, a 4 day trip to Porto and flight tickets back to Denmark.

  1. Welcome back 😉

    That was a short-lived adventure?!

Are you gonna tell us more about this, or is this it?
    BOMBSHELL. DROPPED. *BOOM* 😛

    1. Moving to Portugal was one of the best decisions I ever made. It lasted only 6 months but the experience was worth everything. If you want to know more about the Vegetarzan project, feel free to drop me an email, I’ll be happy to chat about it.

  2. Seems like you had to rush back to Denmark with extremely short notice and gave up the Lisbon dream, sorry to hear this. The Portugal experience was not as fulfilling as initially described then, good to know as I was planning to move there as well.

    1. Portugal had nothing to do with the decision, we loved living in Portugal! If we had the option to pursue the new venture from Portugal we would have stayed. But in a start-up it’s critical to be close to the daily operations so it was a necessary step. We will be back one day!

  3. Hi Jørgen – Although your staying in Portugal was i a bit short im sure it was a nice and learningful experience. I wish you best of luck with your new position in Vegetarzan. Seems that they are making Janeliciuos food 🙂

    1. Thank you Jørgen. Yes, it was only 6 months but it was a great experience! The food is incredibly tasty, healthy and good for the environment. We should all eat more vegetables 🙂

  4. Very daring to start a restaurant business in the midst of corona and lockdowns. It could be another year before a vaccine is outthere, did you consider that?

    1. Yes, we are very much aware of the risks Marc. We started the first restaurant on March 1st, just as Covid-19 hit the hardest and needed to adjust quickly. There’s many ways to deliver delicious, healthy take-away if needed. We’ll find a way!

  5. Nice article Jorgen, thanks for sharing so many details. I am curios, can I invest/buy real estate in Denmark if I’m not a citizen (but I live in EU, Romania) ? Are in Denmark real estate auctions (properties sold by banks) ? Thanks

    1. It’s my pleasure Vlad. Danish property is not available to foreigners unless they live here. It’s one of the exceptions Denmark required before entering EU.

  6. Hi Jørgen,
Do you have at least 8 shares of Occidental? Did you noticed that Occidental gave 1 warrant for every 8 shares? Apparently, each warrant gives the option to buy one share for $22, so they are not valuable now, but may become valuable in the future as the stock rises further. They can also be sold at NYSE and are already worth around $5 each. [1]

In Degiro, the warrants show up as “Non tradeable”. I am still waiting for customer service to tell me if it will be possible to exercise the warrant option in the future through Degiro. Does anyone know?

    [1] https://www.oxy.com/investors/Services/Pages/June2020Warrants.aspx

    1. HI Ricardo. Sorry for the late reply. Yes, I got some OXY warrents. I’m not sure how it works, I have not tried to sell them. I don’t see any buy or sell orders on Degiro but there’s a “Latest” indicating the price of the last transaction.

      1. Hi Jørgen, meanwhile, I have asked Degiro. They told me that (a) we cannot sell the warrants through Degiro, but (b) we can exercise them through Degiro (we just have to email them). The warrants are valid until 2027. Until that date we can buy shares for $22 each. Obviously, it makes no sense now, because they are trading for $12, but they may become quite valuable (we hope!).

  7. Hi Jørgen,
What are your thoughts on the increase in Pending Payments on Mintos? I can see that on your screen dump it is currently around 11% of total invested. I have stopped reinvesting a while back (just letting the loans run out) and for me this amount is around 25% and have been steadily increasing over time. Have you considered limiting your exposure as well?

  8. Spændende koncept med Vegetarzan, jeg håber det lykkes for jer.

  9. how much time per day you spend to analyze, review and report your whole investement strategy?

  10. Took out all funds but EUR 100 from FastInvest too see what would happen with the platform. I tried taking out EUR 27 on the 27.04, this payment is still pending.
Allthough I do not expect to see those money again. But we will see. From a technical point of view I like the platform.

Good luck with your new startup, looking forward to read more about it.

    1. I’ve not received any of my latest withdrawals from FastInvest either. Thanks for wishing me well with the startup. Busy (but fun) times!

  11. Dude. I am happy that you are moving back. Baltic P2P where you income came from is dead. I pulled all my money out and wrote down what I couldn’t. A scam after a scam, there is no business model for investors.

I do wish well for you. Going into restaurant business at the start of Covid does not sound like a good idea as you seem to have no advantage. The virus will be here for a long time and restaurants suffer. Seasoned veterans are going out of business and you will lose your money and time.

I have been investing for living for 15 years, I am now buying assets for which Covid offers a discount. Currently some airport stocks. Why don’t you buy a working restaurant for next to nothing if you really want to work in that area?

IT will do well during Corona and after it. That is what you know.

  12. Olá!

I was thinking on starting investing on Mintos but I was seeing a lot of bad reviews on the web due to last months. What are your thoughts? Think it’s safe?

    1. Hi Estrela. No investment is safe. However, there’s several healthy loan originators on Mintos that I don’t mind investing in.
